He was a professor at the Federal University of Paraíba (2004) and is now associate professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, Brazil. Referee of journals regarding Phycology and Marine Biology. Works in undergraduate and graduate programs on Biodiversity (Botany, Ecology and oceanography), teaching and supervising in the areas of marine descriptive ecology, seaweed ecophysiology, taxonomy, phylogeny and biogeography. Coordinator of projects related with systematic, macroecology, environmental impacts related to climate change and marine pollution.

Leonardo Rubi Rörig, PhD

Professor

BSc. Biology with emphasis in photochemistry - UNISINOS (1990), MSc. Biological Oceanography Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG (1997), PhD in Ecology and Natural Resources - Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar (2005). Currently, he is an associate Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). He works in the areas of Algae Biotechnology (Cultivation and Bioremediation), Biological Oceanography (phytoplankton, microalgae ecophysiology) and Ecology (environmental assessment, aquatic ecology, ecotoxicology, microbial ecology). He has experience in the elaboration and execution of projects for environmental monitoring and evaluation of water resources, where he worked in integrated projects between academia and business sectors. He is a leading member of the CNPq Research Group Biology, Cultivation and Biotechnology of Microalgae-Santa Catarina, based at UFSC. He is a member of Red Iberoamericana for the Treatment of Effluents with Microalgae (RENUWAL-Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, Mexico, Portugal) and an associate of the Biotechnology Network of the Southern Region (SULBIOTEC).

José Bonomi Barufi, PhD

Professor

BSc. Biological Sciences - University of São Paulo (2002), MSc. in Sciences (Botany) - University of São Paulo (2004), PhD in Biological Sciences - University of São Paulo (2004). He has experience in Botany, with emphasis in algae and photobiology. From August 2010 to August 2011, he worked in the Centro de Pesquisas e Desenvolvimento Leopoldo Américo Miguez de Melo, CENPES, Petrobras, in the line of research of microalgae bioprocess to obtain biofuels. Since August 2011, he is a Professor at the Botany Department, Federal University of Santa Catarina. Teachs and supervises in the postgraduate program in Biotechnology and Biosciences and in the postgraduate program in Biology of Algae, Fungi and Plants. His most recent works focuses on photobiology, ecophysiology, photosynthesis and bioremedition of macro and microalgae.

Postdoc Researcher, PELD ILOC

She is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the project "Long-term ecological program in the Brazilian oceanic islands - PELD ILOC" and technical manager of the Ocean Archipelagos: Conserving Marine Biodiversity project in the archipelagos of São Pedro and São Paulo, Trindade and Martin Vaz. She has a degree in Biological Sciences (2011), a Master's degree in Biology of Fungi, Algae and Plants (2013) and a PhD in Ecology from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2021). She is interested in the evolutionary processes of the marine environment and her research permeates macroecology and phylogeny as subsidies for the design of conservation strategies.

Eduardo de Oliveira Bastos, PhD

Postdoc Researcher

He has a degree in Aquaculture Engineering, from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2010), a Master's in Fungi, Algae and Plants in the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2013) and a PhD in Biotechnology and Biosciences at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2019). He currently is a postdoct researcher in the Post-Graduate Program in Oceanography at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. He studies the reproductive aspects of red and green algae with an interest in aquaculture production, use of macroalgae for bioremediation of contaminated water with nutrients and / or trace metals, and impacts of abiotic parameters on the physiology of macroalgae.
